Leaving South Pole

Leaving South Pole

Expeditioners boarding a C-130 transport plane at South Pole, ready to head north to McMurdo. Landing conditions at SPO were pretty marginal, but there'd been no flights in or out for 4-5 days due to a big blizz at McMurdo. So the pilots went for it, and were able to get down safely. Many of these folks had been at SPO for the previous winter, and they were REALLY grateful to the aircrew who made that special effort to land!
